home heating systemsIn summertime, you’re probably more concerned about your cooling needs than making sure your home has heat. But it won’t be long before you’ll need to think about firing up those home heating systems again. And if you’ve gone too long without regular maintenance, you might be in for an unwelcome surprise. Many HVAC experts say that up to 75% of their no-heat calls in winter are due to a lack of service. That’s why it’s better to get a head start on making sure your furnace, ducts, and other components of your system are working the way they should. It might surprise you, but summer is actually the best time to do this. Here are a few reasons why you should call your heating services technician before fall rolls around.

  1. Summer is less busy
Almost everyone schedules maintenance for their home heating systems in early fall. That means that HVAC technicians are really busy during that time of year, making it difficult to secure an appointment. While technicians get their fair share of emergency air conditioning calls in summer, they’ll be much more likely to accommodate a heating service appointment at some point during the summer. You might even get a better rate, too. At the very least, it’s better to not be under a time crunch!
  2. You’ll catch small problems early
No one wants to deal with a heating emergency. You need to make certain that by the time you need it, your furnace is in good working order. By getting an inspection in the summertime, your technician will be able to point out any smaller issues that might need addressing early on. If you do need heat repair, you can take care of it then and there, rather than waiting for the problem to worsen. Ultimately, that will save you time, money, and frustration.
  3. You’ll have time to save up for a replacement
Let’s face it: furnace replacement doesn’t come cheap and always happens at the most inconvenient time. When customers get their home heating systems inspected sooner rather than later, they’ll be armed with a lot more knowledge. If their furnace is on its last legs, for example, the need for replacement won’t take them by surprise. They can make an appointment to get it replaced in early fall and have a chance to save up or change their budgetary needs around so it won’t be as big of a financial burden. The same goes for any big repairs. In the end, it’s better to have as much information as you can so you aren’t caught unawares.

If you haven’t yet scheduled your heating system maintenance appointment this year, don’t put it off until the fall. Call your HVAC technician and schedule it during the summer. That way, you’ll be much more prepared for any heating emergency down the line.
